20.12.24

One last thing to round off 2024, it was a very proud moment to have organised Ysgol Brô Morgannwg’s first ever blitz event…maybe the first ever in Wales? 2 hours with 24 players, some amazing skills and effort from players in year 7 (and one in year 9) who had never played the game before the start of the school year! Onwards and upwards!

Merry Christmas, Nadolig Llawen!

16.12.24

Roughly one year ago, St. Colmcille’s had no youth stuff going on whatsoever. Many had run sessions and activities in the past, but following on from the AGM of 12 months ago, it became apparent it had completely died a death. No doubt, Covid had a huge impact on not only our club, but sports clubs everywhere.

Fast forward 12 months, and I think it’s fair to say that as a club, we’ve made huge strides. I’d like to place on record an enormous thanks to Tiarnan O’Hagan – a fantastic person, and the one who said that we pretty much need to just do something! The time for talking came to an end in one fell swoop and as we look back on the last 12 months, we’re surely but steadily making solid progress.

A quick scan through our socials and in the pages below are clear evidence of the work that’s been put in and I think we can look forward to 2025 as being another year of progress and development. The ultimate aim this year is to get a team to the ABCs in London in July and we’re well placed to achieve this goal. With sessions now planned at St. Baruc’s Primary in Barry as well as the spring weekend sessions in Grangetown, it’s time to say ‘well done’, to enjoy the winter break and to hit the ground running in the new year!

St Colmcille’s abu!

Tua blwyddyn yn ôl, nid oedd gan St. Colmcille’s unrhyw gweithgareddau ieuenctid yn digwydd o gwbl. Roedd llawer wedi cynnal sesiynau a gweithgareddau yn y gorffennol, ond yn dilyn ymlaen o’r Cyfarfod Cyffredinol Blynyddol 12 mis yn ôl, daeth yn amlwg ei fod wedi marw’n llwyr. Yn ddiau, cafodd Covid effaith enfawr nid yn unig ar ein clwb, ond ar glybiau chwaraeon ym mhobman.

12 mis ymlaen, ac mae’n deg dweud ein bod ni fel clwb wedi cymryd camau enfawr. Hoffwn gofnodi diolch enfawr i Tiarnan O’Hagan – person ffantastig, a’r un a ddywedodd fod angen i ni wneud rhywbeth! Daeth yr amser ar gyfer siarad i ben yn sydyn ac wrth i ni edrych yn ôl ar y 12 mis diwethaf, rydym yn sicr bod cynnydd cadarn wedi cymryd lle.

Sgan cyflym drwy ein digwyddiadau cymdeithasol ac yn y tudalennau isod mae tystiolaeth glir o’r gwaith sydd wedi’i wneud ac rwy’n meddwl y gallwn edrych ymlaen at 2025 fel blwyddyn arall o gynnydd a datblygiad. Y nod yn y pen draw eleni yw cael tîm i’r ABCs yn Llundain ym mis Gorffennaf ac rydym mewn sefyllfa dda i gyrraedd y nod hwn. Gyda sesiynau bellach wedi’u cynllunio yn Ysgol Gynradd St. Baruc yn y Barri yn ogystal â sesiynau penwythnos y gwanwyn yn Grangetown, mae’n bryd dweud ‘da iawn’, i fwynhau gwyliau’r gaeaf ac i gychwyn yn gardarn yn y flwyddyn newydd!

A few more skill cards here to show the skills we have been working on in the session at St. Helens this week – a great one for the kids who play a bit of basketball or who fancy applying their keepy-uppy skills!

Ychydig mwy o gardiau sgiliau yma i ddangos y sgiliau rydyn ni wedi bod yn gweithio arnyn nhw yn y sesiwn yn San Helen yr wythnos hon – un gwych i’r plant sy’n chwarae ychydig o bêl-fasged neu sydd awydd defnyddio eu sgiliau keepy-uppy!

14.11.24

After a well deserved half term break, it’s been a real privilege to have had the chance to deliver sessions at another school in Barry – St. Helens on Tynewydd Road. The school was kind enough to offer a taster session in the week before the half term holiday and from that, 20 pupils across years 5 and 6 signed up which reflects a high level of support from the school and a willingness from the pupils to get involved with a new sport – although not for all! It’s amazing when you get chatting to kids and find out family connections to Ireland, the sport and in a twist of fate, one of the pupils at St Helens is the granddaughter of St Colmcille’s legend and former chairperson Eddie Tracy!

As for the first two weeks, the skills and effort shown have been remarkable. Not only sports skills of course, but in showing up, giving it a go and overcoming the difficulties in aquiring and mastering new skills, the kids are also showing huge amounts of resilience – a credit to themselves and the ethos at St Helens that fosters mindsets like these.

Here’s looking forward to the next 4 weeks!

Ar ôl gwyliau hanner tymor, mae wedi bod yn fraint wirioneddol cael y cyfle i gyflwyno sesiynau mewn ysgol arall yn y Barri – St. Helens ar Ffordd Tynewydd. Bu’r ysgol yn ddigon caredig i gynnig sesiwn blasu yn yr wythnos cyn gwyliau’r hanner tymor ac o hynny, ymunodd 20 o ddisgyblion ar draws blynyddoedd 5 a 6 sy’n adlewyrchu lefel uchel o gefnogaeth gan yr ysgol a pharodrwydd gan y disgyblion i gymryd rhan. gyda gem newydd – er nid i bawb! Mae’n anhygoel pan fyddwch chi’n sgwrsio â phlant a darganfod cysylltiadau teuluol ag Iwerddon, y gemac mewn tro o ffawd, mae un o ddisgyblion St Helens yn wyres i ‘legend’ St Colmcille ac yn gyn-gadeirydd – Eddie Tracy!

O ran y pythefnos cyntaf, mae’r sgiliau a’r ymdrech a ddangoswyd wedi bod yn rhyfeddol. Nid yn unig sgiliau chwaraeon wrth gwrs, ond wrth ddangos i fyny, rhoi cynnig arni a goresgyn yr anawsterau o ran caffael a meistroli sgiliau newydd, mae’r plant hefyd yn dangos llawer iawn o wydnwch – clod iddyn nhw eu hunain a’r ethos yn San Helen sy’n meithrin meddylfryd. fel y rhain.

Dyma edrych ymlaen at y 4 wythnos nesaf!

PS – Here’s the skills we work on in weeks 1 and 2 of these sessions, extra homework!

ON – Dyma’r sgiliau rydyn ni’n gweithio arnyn nhw yn wythnosau 1 a 2 o’r sesiynau hyn, gwaith cartref ychwanegol!

An Autumn update!

It’s been a fantastic start to St. Colmcille’s Youth programme for 2024/25…a few brief notes, as much to test out our new website as much as it is to share our successes so far!

– Sessions delivered at High Street Primary and Ysgol Bro Morgannwg in Barry. Really well received, a lot of fun and enjoyment had by classes ranging from years 5 up to 9! Great to see the schemes being shared on the school’s social media as well.

– The first weekend sessions delivered at Sevenoaks Park in Grangetown. Only 5 to start with, but as the saying goes ‘ Build It And They Will Come!’

There’s big plans for the year ahead, so keep checking in for updates on our progress as the year goes ahead.

If any schools would be interested in getting in contact and working with us, drop us a line at stcolmcillesyouth@gmail.com
